35 | ROLL OF HONOUR Mary Doig, 2014 Mary Doig of East Kilbride, Scotland, passed away peacefully at home in October 2024 after a long life dedicated to Girlguiding. She was brought up on the Island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides- west of mainland Scotland- where she was a Brownie and Guide. When she married Henry, they established their home in East Kilbride where he was a local doctor. Her Guiding roles ran to first County Commissioner of West Lanarkshire and ultimately County President. Mary was really moved to support WAGGGS through the Olave Baden-Powell Society after a visit to West Lanarkshire where Mary McPhail featured as an after-dinner speaker. Unfortunately, she never got to attend a meeting because of travel restrictions during Covid, and later due to old age, but there was a retiring offering at the funeral service for WAGGGS. Mary was laid to rest back home on Lewis beside Henry. United States of America United States of America Marcia J. Keeler, 2002 Marcia Keeler, known as Marcy, a lifelong advocate of the Girl Scouts and an inspiring leader, passed away on September 27 in San Jose, California, at the age of 87. Born in the Philippines during her father’s military service, Marcy and her family were among the last evacuees to return to the U.S. before World War II. Despite frequent relocations, she remained deeply involved in Girl Scouting, starting in Denver, Colorado, with Brownie Troop #127 and continuing in New Mexico as a Girl Scout Mariner. In 1955, Marcy represented the United States at a Juliette Low Session at Our Chalet in Switzerland. Her trip included a memorable tea with Lady Baden-Powell at Hampton Court, a highlight of her time abroad. Marcy’s professional life was as diverse as her passions, including roles as a teacher, travel guide, nun, Lockheed employee, and Red Cross volunteer. A lover of animals and travel, she often visited England and cherished her time at Foxlease. Her innovative “Super BAT” program, which trained youth in first aid, certified over 100 participants per session and earned her the Girl Scouts’ Thanks Badge. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, a Friend of Our Chalet, and a proud “Juliette Low Girl.” Marcy’s legacy of service and leadership will be cherished by her friends, family, and Girl Scout sisters. Donations in her memory can be made to the World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
